Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are there minimum standards for a computer that I donate?
A: At least a Pentium 4 2.4 GHz or equivalent AMD processor and must be able to run Microsoft XP.

Q: What if my computer doesn’t work?
A: This is not a problem, We make every effort to repair donated computers.

Q: What happens to my PC when I bring it in?
A: A donor receives a tax donation letter.  The hard drive is erased to Department of Defense standards.  The hardware is evaluated and repaired. Then a new operating system is installed on the machine.

Q:What happens to my PC after it’s been refurbished?
A: The newly refurbished computers are given to not-for-profit organizations.

Q: Will Westchester PC-Renew repair my computer for me?
A: Our mission is not to repair computers for private individuals.

Q: Does Westchester PC-Renew charge for the computers that it donates to individuals & organizations?
A: Not at this time.

Q: Can I take a tax deduction for the computer that I donate to Westchester PC-Renew?
A: Yes.
